🤖Can A.I. Grade Your Next Test?: The answer seems to be yes, or at least soon enough it will be more than good enough to do so. Researchers at Stanford came through with a groundbreaking approach to provide feedback to self-learners. A key component of learning anything is quick feedback. Often the vast number of students especially present in MOOCs has meant feedback has either been completely ignored or impaired. This groundbreaking approach represents a democratization of high-quality feedback. (1037 words)
🧬New artificial intelligence software can compute protein structures in 10 minutes: Last year, Deepmind’s Alphafold happened to be one of the main reasons I succumbed to and regained a sense of Techno-Optimism. It would seem that researchers at the Institute for Protein Design at the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle, have managed to create software of the same level of accuracy. Their model named RoseTTAFold is publically available. It must be noted that on the same day of RoseTTAFold’s release, Deepmind finally released its own paper on Alphafold as well. Their code is now also publically available to all interested. It is very likely Deepmind sought not to be outdone by the researchers at the Institute for Protein Design perhaps a reason for the release of a draft. Regardless, this is still an amazing time for researchers and Bioengineering overall. (491 words)
🚀Jeff Bezos Touches Space Aboard Blue Origin Rocket: I guess one can truly say the commercial space race has officially begun. Just a few days ago another Billionaire(Richard Branson) would take his airplane-like spaceship to the edge of space. This time it would be Amazon founder Jeff Bezos who would do so. There were clearly differences between the two flights. Most prominent among them was the phallus-shaped space ship that was the Blue Origin rocket. Things seemed slightly tighter therein than in the Virgin Galactic rocket. Perhaps Virgin Galactic's emphasis on tourism and leisure and Blue Origin's focus on industrial transport played a role in the varied interior design of the rockets.(1607 words)
🐱💻Inside NSO, Israel’s billion-dollar spyware giant: It was revealed to us that authoritarian governments had been making use of spyware called Pegasus to spy on various dissidents and journalists. The proliferation of spyware has been insane. One could visit various Telegram groups and see people trading spyware. It's become very obvious that there need to be standards regarding said software, standards that may include their ban. The problem becomes the fact that their primary usage is through governments who by themselves see their utility to either enforce the law or keep themselves in power. If nothing is done now, there is a high chance the future of surveillance is distributed; everyone has eyes on everyone else. (3298 words)
