🤖An autonomous system to assemble reconfigurable robotic structures in space: Researchers at TUM(Technical University of Munich) as well as the German Aerospace Center came together to devise a method to help assemble space-oriented machines like telescopes and spaceships…in space. There’s the acknowledgment that sending objects to space tends to be costly and many times impossible in single parts. This means that space-bound objects should ideally be built in space where they are destined to be. The thought however had been stalled due to the fact that assembly in space had been impractical. This new system helps deal with the impracticality by emphasizing modular design and brings us into an age in which autonomous space factories could well and truly be a thing. (773 words)
🕸️Hiding malware inside AI neural networks: I’ve recently put in more effort to highlight the fact that a lot of the technologies that will define and already do define our lives are rather insecure. The rise of cybercrime and the increasing demand for people of cybersecurity expertise highlight the rather dire situation. Neural Networks are no exception to the list of potential targets of malicious code injection and a trio of Cornell researchers seem to have proven this. (369 words)
🧬DeepMind says it will release the structure of every protein known to science: Last week I made note of Deepmind’s release of Alphafold 2 to the world, what came shortly after was the release of a powerful database (still in beta) that allows researchers to access a wide range of protein structures. The team at Deepmind as ambitious as it is seems hellbent on making every protein structure known to Science accessible to the average person. (933 words)
🌾RNA breakthrough creates crops that can grow 50% more potatoes, rice: In a study by a set of international researchers there’s been a groundbreaking method making use of RNA to not only strengthen the durability of crops but also make them yield far more than already existing methods allow for. There are a lot of RNA applications going on in biotech today it would seem to many that the creation of the RNA-based vaccine was a turning point. (896 words)
